Engineering teams inherit vulnerabilities from upstream base images, then burn significant time endlessly chasing CVEs and patching only priority issues, as it’s impossible to address them all. These processes are slow, fragile, and expensive.
Meanwhile, CVEs have increased by 60% over the past five years, and software supply chain attacks have doubled since 2024. And they will only continue to accelerate, with attackers leveraging AI to weaponize vulnerabilities, something we’ve witnessed with the recent Anthropic Report from November 13, 2025: “AI autonomously discovered vulnerabilities in targets selected by human operators and successfully exploited them in live operations.” Many current solutions attempt to fix this by offering highly minimalist, proprietary operating systems.
