Celebrating the top 100 European AI startups in 2026
It has been twelve months since the inaugural Sifted AI 100 list, and the buying landscape, tooling, infrastructure, and power dynamics of the AI economy have remained febrile. We at N47 are excited to again partner with Sifted on the AI 100 and celebrate the AI-native founders building in Europe.
For those building on the application layer, the critical characteristics have been adaptability and resilience; the tools with which software is built have become increasingly agentic, creating new avenues for value delivery and areas of competitive tension. Large enterprises have moved their expectations beyond proofs of concept and committed to agentic rollouts, introducing new questions of maintenance, evaluation, and scale.
As demand ramps with crystallising expectations, despite monstrous capex investments ($850bn expected for 2026 across the 7 most prominent hyperscalers), AI has become ever more supply-constrained. Infrastructure bottlenecks have caused delays into the 2030s throughout the supply chain in power generation, grid access, and memory, let alone GPU manufacture. Awesome investments have been, and continue to be made, for capacity that will come online in anticipation of demand 5 years out and further. Investment shows no sign of slowing: Most of the hyperscalers revised their FY26 guidance up in H1.
Critically, as demand surges from agentic workflows and enterprise leaders commit to getting AI right for their businesses, we have begun to see an erosion of the ROI debt that this capex has incurred over the last few years. Exponential View’s excellent report on the State of the AI economy has demonstrated for the first time that AI revenues have overtaken the ongoing depreciation charge (although there is a long way to go to eat into the capex total).
12026, The State of the AI Economy.
This evolving environment has brought a wealth of opportunities for startups, which European founders continue to capitalise on. Ambitious founders have harnessed the intelligence, planning, and permanence of agents throughout the economy: from transforming the pace of system change (Conduct), to the management of distributed frontline workforces (Sona), and streamlining of MEP engineering in construction (Endra). European horizontal AI platforms have excelled in distributing managed AI throughout enterprises (Dust, Langdock).
European founders have continued to push to take advantage of the continent’s deep historical engineering and industrial heritage when it comes to building in Physical AI. Pioneering robotics and hardware businesses are automating the warehouse floor (Sereact) and air defence (Alta Ares), and are reaching for more generally applicable platforms (Genesis). Whilst European founders are also developing the picks and shovels with which these Physical AI outcomes are built (Encord).
This list defines the rising stars of AI in Europe: Companies that we believe have the blend of dynamism, ambition, and capability to achieve category definition on a global scale. We are excited for the next stage of European AI.
